Southern Illinois Health Insurance — Built Around Your Life

A lot of my Southern Illinois families found me the way things still work downstate — a neighbor or a cousin passed along my name. I help the self-employed, farmers, tradesmen, 1099 contractors, small business owners, and families across Southern and downstate Illinois — from Robinson and Effingham to Mount Vernon, Carbondale, and the Metro East — find private under-65 coverage that fits a real budget. I work by phone and video, so where you live never gets in the way.

Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage

For 2027 plans, Open Enrollment generally runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027 — enroll by December 15 for a January 1 start. Worth knowing this year: the enhanced premium subsidies that held costs down through 2025 have scaled back, so a lot of self-employed folks and families in Southern Illinois are seeing higher premiums for 2027. If you earn a little over the subsidy line, it is worth re-running your numbers rather than assuming last year's plan still fits. See the full 2027 Open Enrollment guide or run your numbers in the estimator.

How health coverage works in Southern Illinois

Starting with the 2026 plan year, Illinois runs its own marketplace, Get Covered Illinois, in place of the federal HealthCare.gov. That is where you find ACA plans, which are guaranteed-issue and subsidy-eligible if your income qualifies. But it is not the only path — and downstate it is worth knowing the trade-offs. Rural counties often have fewer carriers and narrower networks on the exchange, and folks who earn a bit too much for a subsidy can get sticker shock. Many self-employed people and families down here look at private under-65 plans instead, which tend to offer more PPO-style flexibility and enroll year-round. I walk you through both, honestly, and you decide.

Southern Illinois questions

Quick answers for Southern Illinois.

Do you have an office in Southern Illinois?

No — I am based in Tampa and work with Southern Illinois families by phone and video. That is on purpose: it means you get the same licensed advisor whether you are in Robinson, Effingham, Mount Vernon, Carbondale, or over in the Metro East, without driving anywhere. I am licensed in Illinois (NPN 21043091).

Can I buy coverage outside open enrollment?

Often, yes. If you have had a qualifying event — losing coverage, moving, a change in your household — that usually opens a special enrollment window on Get Covered Illinois. Outside of that, many private under-65 plans are built to enroll year-round, so there is usually still a path forward.

Is there a fee to work with you?

No. I am paid a commission by the insurance carrier once you enroll, so there is no fee to you for the time we spend comparing options.

Call and you get me, not a script. No robocalls, no spam, no pressure to enroll — just a real conversation about your options.
